Indian Authors Wish List
In all fairness, I think there are many Indians who write beautifully and make excellent authors. One of my favorite authors is Tagore. But sadly some of his translated works are such a pain to read that I fervently wish I knew Bengali so I could relish his prose in all its original beauty and flavor.
This year I decided to experiment with two kinds of Indian authors: (i)who are only hype and little substance (ii) those gems who are lost in the heap of fake diamonds, the true Real McCoys.
My reading wish list for 2007 include:
- Tagore's Chokerbali
- Rushdie's Midnight's Children
- Vikram Seth's A Suitable Boy and An Equal Music
- Naipauls' A House for Mr. Biswas
- Amitav Ghosh's Hungry Tide
- Khushwant Singh's The Train to Pakistan
- Vikram Chandra's Sacred Games
- Kiran Desai's Inheritance of Loss
- Suketu Mehta's Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found
- Sudha Murthy's Mahasweta and Dollar Bahu
- David Davidar's The House of Blue Mangoes
- Manju Kapur's Difficult Daughters

Have you read Meera Sayal? She cracks me up. Life is not ha ha he he and Anita and Me. Both were great reads. I am going to steal a few books off this list. :) Although I did read difficult daughters. I liked it. For now, I am into Spanish authors. I have updated my Orkut list. :)
I tried watching the movie but it was too damn serious, but I hear she's damn popular that her books will soon be incorporated in syllabus (UK) or some crap like that.
I want to read Japanese authors now. U lemme know any good spanish authors, k?
Sure I will. I am going on a vacation next week. So I will be taking a lot of books along. :)
